In the video, he can be heard telling the rickshaw puller that he is not getting pension from Balochistan University, his job as vice chancellor is also going to end, now there is inflation, so I will drive your rickshaw.
Dr. Mansoor Akbar Kundi retired from Balochistan University in 2015 from 22nd grade.
He worked in various positions in this university from 1979 to 2015. He has also been the Vice-Chancellor of Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan while in September 2019 he took over as the Vice-Chancellor of Bahauddin Zakaria University, Multan.
However, in February this year, the Supreme Court suspended Prof. Dr. Mansoor Akbar Kundi and the registrar of Bahauddin Zakaria University from their posts.
He was accused of giving fake admissions to LLB in connivance with law colleges affiliated to the university.
Supreme Court Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to submit a detailed report of the case at the next hearing and adjourned the hearing for an indefinite period and even after the passage of seven months, the hearing of the case continued. It has not been done.
Navida Weekly contacted Prof. Dr. Mansoor Akbar Kundi on the issue of this viral video, who said that the act of driving a rickshaw was a sign of his solidarity with the people suffering from economic hardship.
Dr. Mansoor Akbar Kundi said: 'I did not drive a rickshaw. I am retired from 22nd grade, I have a PhD, I can study somewhere but my act of driving a rickshaw was a sign of solidarity with those who are suffering from economic difficulties at the moment. The second thing is that if bad times come, driving a rickshaw is not a bad thing, this provision is halal.'
Expressing concern over the country's economic conditions and inflation, he said: 'There has been a lot of suffocation. After every month the price of petrol increases, this month itself it increased by Rs.50. People thought that they would get some relief if the caretaker set-up came, but now people are disappointed. What happens to the poor man when petrol becomes expensive.'
Dr. Mansoor said that he made this video for his YouTube channel but it became a hit.
'The thing is that the higher people go with us, the more they get stuck. A country educator should have a role, so I did this. I will definitely drive a rickshaw for a day or two, there is nothing wrong with that.'
When asked about the suspension, Dr. Mansoor Akbar said that he has been 'punished for uncommitted sins'. "The Supreme Court has suspended me for seven months, even though I get a salary, a bungalow and other benefits."
Dr. Mansoor Akbar will retire from the post of Vice-Chancellor on September 26 with the same suspension.
He said: 'The case against me was before I came but no one asked. The judge wrote that the VC and the registrar are suspended and we stopped working following the order.
In this regard, Zubair Khan, the current registrar of the university, told Navida Weekly: 'Dr. Mansoor was not accused of corruption but of negligence. As the courts were on summer vacation, the case was not taken up, but the university administration is following the case and it is hoped that it will be heard soon.
Regarding Professor Dr. Mansoor Kundi and his video, he said, 'He is a lively man and his attitude in the university was friendly. He made this video just to give an example.
Dr. Mansoor Kundi said that he is 69 years old. At the age of 64 and a half, I applied for the vice-chancellorship of Bahauddin Zakaria University and became the vice-chancellor. Then a case was made against me.'
Professor Dr. Mansoor Kundi also gave a message to the youth and said that "youth should take care of their health and do not get wrong education because it often happens that the degree is from Leeds University but this education has given them something inside." Not taught. Young people love the country, love knowledge and love your democratic values.'
